Original Version of Fritz Leiber's ADEPT'S GAMBIT Shipping Now

I mentioned a while back that Arcane Wisdom (publisher of yours truly) was going to release the original version of Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and Gray Mouser story ADEPT'S GAMBIT, which contained references to H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, and which Lovecraft read in manuscript form and commented on. That book is shipping now!   Details here:

Yes, looking forward to your review.

I went to order myself a copy but the $30 shipping to the UK was too rich for my blood, unfortunately.

Hopefully, it'll become available over here via Amazon or eBay (at a sensible price, of course!)

Tim, Arcane Wisdom sells some books to UK dealers, so keep an eye on Ebay and some should show up at cover price.

Thanks, Charles, I've set up an eBay alert - so hopefully I'll get lucky ;-)

Okay, this made me head back to read Adept's Gambit again.

I wonder if this new version contains the "The Wrong Branch" intro.

Adept's Gambit was Leiber's first Fafhrd and Grey Mouser story, right? He wrote that little intro to explain why they are adventuring in historic Earth rather than in Lankhmar.

That seems easily skippable, but the ending is the two of them deciding to head back to Lankhmar.

I think there are sprinkles of Lankhmar throughout the story, too. It will be neat to see what his original story contained.

qxface, I doubt The Wrong Branch will be included as it was, as you say, written expressly to explain how the lads could end up on Earth for an adventure. We shall see.

It seems to be unavailable from Amazon (US and UK), eBay, etc., and Miskatonic Press is gone. Any other leads this late in the game?

Holger, I checked Camelot Books and a couple of other specialty shops and they're sold out as well. I guess just keep checking Ebay and Amazon. Sooner or later one will turn up. I've had to do that for a few books over the years. Good luck!
